Exhibition Opening – Free Entry at the Vienna Secession on September 17

You just have to be flexible these days. Due to rising numbers of Corona infections in Vienna, the Secession had to cancel their usual opening party of their new art exhibitions on short notice. But they have come up with an alternative idea: the exhibitions of Emily Wardill and Edi Hila will be opened under strict regulations. Visitors have to wear a face mask, the number of people will be restricted, and everybody is asked to give their contact details for tracing voluntarily.

On Thursday, the day of the opening, the entrance to the Secession will be free, and the opening hours are expanded to 8 pm.

Emily Wardill shows her newest film project for the first time – in “Night for Day,” she depicts a feigned relationship between mother and son, between a revolutionary resistance fighter and techno-utopians in Portugal.

Edi Hila was barred from working as an artist in the 70ies in Albania. “The Sound of the Tuba” shows a selection of his paintings, which are addressing migration movements originating in the communist past of Albania.

The exhibition will be accessible until November 8 at the regular opening hours – if Corona won’t foil this either … However, our digital guide provides information about the Secession’s Association of Visual Artists and its history as well as about the current exhibitions – even if you can’t visit yourself!
