7 Best Places to Visit in March 2020

Springtime is approaching, and we are definitely looking forward to it, as it always brings great adventures! If you’re looking for some trip ideas for March, keep reading, we’re about to give you the list of our favorite destinations — the 7 best places to visit in March 2020.

Valencia, Spain

If you want to celebrate the arrival of spring, there’s no better place to visit than Valencia. In March, this Spanish coastal city hosts a month-long festival called Las Fallas which includes different street performances that welcome the new season. You will see various paper figurines, that will later be set on fire. This colorful event is also a great opportunity to try all kinds of domestic meals, that you’ll love.

Weather in March is just perfect for wandering around and exploring the city — temperatures are above 20 °C, and it gets pretty sunny, but be aware that the sea is too cold for swimming. Valencia is a beautiful city, with architecture that is a mixture of old and new, with medieval castles and towers and modern art deco buildings – it has it all.

The Old Town is amazing — you have to see the amazing towers called Torres de Serranos, a former gateway through the demolished ancient city wall, laMuralla Cristiana (“the Christian wall”). Also, check out the Catedral de Santa Maria de Valencia, which is a must-see in Valencia, and it is said that the Holy Grail is kept here. You can climb up to the cathedral’s tower and admire the city from above. Besides its cool sights all around the city, Valencia has perfect sandy beaches where you can enjoy the sunshine and amazing sea.

Provence, France

Provence is the area where the Alps meet the Mediterranean, with the best climate in the world, offers a lot of places for exploring and a lot of beaches for relaxing. It’s perfect for visiting in March when nature starts to come alive, white almond blossom is in full bloom, and the weather is mild — just perfect for the first spring picnic on the beach.

There are plenty of amazing places in Provence that you can visit — we recommend Nice, Fréjus, Antibes, and definitely Monaco. If you decide to visit Nice you can attend their amazing carnival — Carnaval de Nice. If you show up wearing a costume, you can get into most parades for free.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Dubrovnik – the Pearl of Adriatic, with its iconic Old Town is the southernmost city in Croatia and one of the most amazing cities in this part of Europe. Its walls date back to the 13th century and they recently found new fame and a way to attract many visitors from around the world — they were used as a location for King’s Landing in Game of Thrones TV series. Dubrovnik gets really crowded in the summer (really, really crowded!), but visiting off-season is ideal for exploring this amazing destination.

There are many significant spots inside the walls but the best way to explore it to enter the Ploče Gate and wander around, let the narrow streets guide you. The main pedestrian area, the street that you have to stroll down, is Stradun that connects Ploče gates with the Pile gates. There are many souvenir shops and cafes along both sides of this street, and in narrow streets that are connected to Stradun. Near the Ploče gates, there is the old port that harbors small boats, and a café “Gradska kavana” where you can relax and watch the sunset.

Outside the city walls, there is another amazing fortress called Lovrijenac — or the King’s Landing from Game of Thrones series, if you prefer. Usually, it is less crowded than the city walls, so you’ll have a really nice time when you get up there, and you’ll enjoy the awesome view of the Old Town and the sea.

Cartagena de Indias, Colombia

Cartagena de Indias is a true Colombian gem, set on the Caribbean coast, and one of the most visited cities of South America. Its Old Town, dating back to the 16th century, remained mainly intact and is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will love exploring its colorful streets and discovering old buildings, beautiful examples of Spanish-Colonial architecture. Also, you will see that beaches here are amazing and that they resemble the ones in Rio de Janeiro and Miami – you’ll have amazing beach days here.

Prepare yourself for exploring a great South American culture. Wander through the streets of Cartagena and you will see the iconic palenqueras – Afro-Colombian women in bright dresses selling fruit. You should know that they all come from a nearby village, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, San Basilio de Palenque – the first freed slaves’ settlement and the home to one unique language. Cartagena is home to amazing art, literature, and architecture – you will love exploring it.

Santiago, Chile

Santiago, the capital and the largest city of Chile, is set in a valley surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of Andes, and the Chilean Coast Range. This South American gem with amazing cultural heritage often gets overlooked because of other, more popular South American destinations, but it deserves your full attention. This city is full of interesting museums, historic landmarks, amazing restaurants, and awesome nightlife — there’s something for everyone.

March the perfect time for visiting Santiago — the summertime is coming to its end, and the weather is getting milder, just perfect for exploring the city and its astonishing natural surroundings. You must see its historical center — Plaza de Armas, which is lined with palms and stunning architectural landmarks, such as the stunning Metropolitan Cathedral, the Central Post Office and the Royal Court Palace. Also, we definitely recommend climbing up the Cerro San Cristobal (San Cristobal Hill), officially known as Parque Metropolitano. There are a few ways to get up to the 300 meters high summit — hiking, cycling, or taking the funicular. Whichever way you choose you will have fun.

Brussels, Belgium

Brussels – the Belgian capital is the most visited Belgian destination and no wonder since it is full of great museums, palaces, chapels, and mansions. Its architecture is amazing, it’s very artsy and there are tons of pretty great restaurants.

The main square, Grand-Place is the focal point, it’s where you’ll see the extraordinary Gothic City Hall, surrounded with baroque, guild houses. One of the main Brussels’ attractions is the futuristic Atomium, the landmark building that represents a molecule’s nine atoms, you have to climb up to it and admire the views or take photos from the nearby park – very Instagram-worthy. We loved the Old England Building and Broodhuis – both buildings house museums today and have remarkable façades.

Visit Brussels in the shoulder seasons — it’s not as crowded so you’ll explore it in peace, and everything is a lot cheaper, and that is always great.

Canary Islands, Spain

The Canary Islands are an amazing Spanish archipelago, set near the west African coast, and very much affected by its climate. The weather is always nice, and you can go swimming even in winter. It’s where you’ll find mountains, sand dunes, gorgeous beaches, bluest water in the world, and pretty little Spanish villages. This is also the perfect destination if you’re into snorkeling or surfing.

There are four main islands in this archipelago (Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Tenerife), and seven smaller ones (Fuerteventura, El Hierro, La Gomerra and La Palma), so there are plenty of options, and none of them is wrong.

Wondering what is the best time to visit the Canary Islands? With temperature varying from 20°C in January or February, to 30°C in July and August, it’s never the wrong season to visit this amazing place on Earth. If you’re looking for a place to take the very first dip of the year, visit the Canary Islands in March, you won’t regret it.
