Marrakesh, Morocco

Set in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, Marrakesh is one great historic city, with that special atmosphere all over its streets. If you’re planning to visit Marrakesh while it’s still summer but would like to avoid the greatest heat, we definitely recommend going there in September when the temperatures begin to drop, especially at night and humidity is low.

While in Marrakesh, you cannot miss the main square called Jemaa el-Fnaa – you’ll see some snake charmers, henna tattoo artists, and various other entertainers by day, and food stalls with lamb, orange juice, and other specialties at night. If you want to relax a bit, check out the Jardin Majorelle, one of the most popular places in Morocco, it’s a tranquil garden with streams and over 300 plant species – the perfect place to get out of the city bustle.

Cape Town, South Africa

Since it is set in the southern hemisphere, September is the time when the springtime arrives in Cape Town and the weather is just beautiful for exploring the city and its gorgeous surroundings that burst up in flowers.

Set at the confluence of the Indian and Atlantic oceans, Cape Town a city with numerous great beaches and amazing views. This South African city is very popular among beachgoers all over the world. The main attraction on these beaches is the magnificent view of the sunset and recreational boating. Even though you might not be able to enjoy those amazing beaches to the fullest, you can have a great time. The best thing you can do in Cape Town in September is whale watching – it’s the peak season that is celebrated at the end of the month with the popular Whale Festival.

Šibenik, Croatia

Any city on the Croatian coast is a win if you’re seeking a perfect September vacation destination, but this time we want to recommend Šibenik, the oldest Croatian coastal city that was actually built by Croats.

The city is full of imposing landmarks, and the best one of them is the Cathedral of St. James – a 16th-century cathedral that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This cathedral is unique in the world because it was built completely out of perfectly carved stone and is geometrically perfect. Also, you must visit its amazing fortresses – Šibenik is surrounded by four fortresses that you simply must explore. Take a walk around the city’s narrow medieval streets and explore the architecture a bit more – it will leave you breathless. Sicily, Italy

Southernmost Italy’s island is full of amazing sandy beaches and beautiful and wild nature all over the place. Also, that’s where the largest European active volcano, Mt. Etna, is situated. But besides the amazing sightseeing that you can do, you’ll also get the chance to explore its very interesting historical places.

September might be the best time to visit Sicily – it’s still warm, so you can enjoy their perfect beaches, but it’s less crowded so you can explore the cultural places in peace. Also, it’s when some of the best food and wine festivals happen, so you’ll get to taste the best of Sicily, and Italy in general.

French Riviera

The French Riviera, or Cote d’Azur, might be the most beautiful part of France, known for its amazing scenery, wonderful culture and cuisine, and charming little coastal towns. The area where the Alps meet the Mediterranean, with the best climate in the world, offers a lot of places for exploring and a lot of beaches for relaxing. The gorgeous French Riviera is perfect in September when the temperatures cool down a bit and the sea is still pretty warm, so you can have perfect beach days.

If you’re into awesome yachts, we recommend visiting Cannes in the last week of September and attend the Boat and Yacht Show (Festival Internationale de la Plaisance). Also, you should know that one weekend in September is devoted to the Heritage Days (Journées du Patrimoine), and it’s when the entrance to most cultural places is free of admission, so you can explore the culture and history of the French Riviera for free.
