Meet Sisi’s Wax Figure at Madame Tussauds Museum in Vienna

Among many wax figures inside the museum, you’ll see waxed replicas of emperors, artists, athletes, etc. Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife Sisi, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Falco, Maria Theresia, and Gustav Klimt are just some of the local personalities and historic people to be seen here. As for international celebrities, there are Marylin Monroe, Freddie Mercury, Robbie Williams, Lady Gaga, and George Clooney, alongside many others. Not to reveal any other names, we leave it for you to discover by yourself.

Not just this, there is a special part of the museum where you can take Albert Einstein’s intelligence test, compose the “Blue Danube” waltz with Johann Strauss, play a piano duet with Franz Schubert, discuss musical topics with Beethoven and Mozart, sing on the stage with Katty Perry or even go head to head with one of the legends of football Hans Krankl in a penalty shoot-out. You can even lie down on the couch and experience how it feels to be analyzed by Sigmund Freud.

What we also found amusing was the section of 200 m² of the “Sisi Uncovered Experience” – 5D exhibition area that reveals all the unknown sides of Elisabeth by looking at one day in the life of the Empress. Ultra-modern technology with 3D animations and sensory impressions of smell and taste creates an authentically real experience of Sisi and her time. Trust us, you have not seen anything like this anywhere else.

Besides just looking at these waxworks, you can learn how it’s made. You can even get your own hand molded in wax at the wax hand dipping station. Pretty interesting, right?

The Audio Guide through the Museum

“Many visitors are excited about the exhibition, but they wish there was more to do there”, says Sophie Wiesinger, marketing manager of Madame Tussauds Vienna. There are times when wandering around the museum by yourself just isn’t enough to bring out your emotions and give you the real feeling of the times that it represents.

Sometimes you have to hear stories being told in the right manner to get the right impression of the exhibition you’re enjoying. This is where audio guides show their real value — not simply telling you the historic data that you need to hear, but transferring an emotion to you, and giving you a unique museum experience that you will never forget.

Marie Tussaud Herself as a Guide

Since this amusing wax museum is unique by itself, there was no other option for creating an audio guide but to make it at least equally unique and interesting. This is where the creativeness of our Cultural Places team and the lovely museum staff really kicked in. The idea of an audio guide narrated by Marie Tussaud herself was born and it was executed perfectly in the form of a digital tour called “Marie Tussauds Welt“.

Marie Tussaud is an interesting historic person, she was an artist AND a businesswoman, which was quite rare at that time. Her life was the discussion starter for this new approach to storytelling. A long, thrilling life, characterized by the French revolution and social advancement of Marie Tussaud. “There is a lot to narrate because Marie Tussaud got to know many of the figures during her lifetime, Napoleon for example”, says Wiesinger.

So, our team had to pick the figures to show in our guide wisely, those had to be the personas that would be interesting to our audience, and were very interesting to Marie Tussaud. The handpicked historic personas were acquaintances of madame Tussaud, so she has some pretty interesting stories to tell about them.

As we already mentioned, besides hearing these interesting historic facts, the very museum will give you the chance to learn how wax figures are made, which is a very interesting and long process. So, if you get to visit the museum, give your best to fully enjoy it.
